444 swag, membership dues and more

Posted on Nov 23 2022 - 5:52pm

Happy Thanksgiving, 444 families! I have several important notes:

SWAG: 444 swag is here, just in time for the holidays. Thanks to Kristine Schwope, we have once again partnered with 33 Ink for branded gear (including winter items!), and thanks to David Dao, we have a new CheddarUp store to make gear purchasing easy. In order to fulfill orders before Christmas and ensure we meet minimum order quantities, the deadline is *Thursday, Dec. 1*. Make your selections today: https://t444swag.cheddarup.com/

Camperships - apply today - DEADLINE NOV. 27

Posted on Nov 14 2022 - 10:15am

Please see the note below from 444 Treasurer David Dao:

Hi all,

As the fall fundraisers draw to a close, we want to bring to your attention that campership applications can now be submitted for the fall semester.

What are camperships?

Our campership program is a scholarship-type program that can be used to offset the cost of activities such as campouts, dues and summer camps.  These funds can be accumulated over multiple years to save for the cost of higher cost items such as high adventure trips or they can be spent as needed.  Campership awards are typically based on an individual scout’s fundraising amounts, participation in troop activities, and financial need.

The funds available for camperships are a percentage taken of the total dollars fundraised each semester.

When are camperships awarded?

Twice a year, the campership committee will meet to review all submitted applications to determine campership amounts awarded for a scout.

How are camperships tracked?

2023 Membership Fees

Posted on Nov 1 2022 - 11:22am

Welcome to November! It's time to pay our 2023 troop fees. These fees are required for membership as a scout or adult in 444B and 444G.

Our troop is having to absorb increased costs for materials, camps and camping facilities, as well as increased BSA dues for 2023 and a carryover of some unexpectedly higher costs towards the end of last year. However, we're also working hard to keep those costs lower (recent examples include use of free facilities for two weekend campouts so far this year, a group pass to greatly reduce usage fees at Texas State Parks, and a cleanup of the Scout Hut to identify materials we already have and do not need to repurchase). We're also looking at an alternative online payment setup with lower processing fees - more to come on that soon.

Popcorn Orders due TODAY (Sunday)!

Posted on Oct 29 2022 - 9:10pm
From Popcorn Chair John Byrd:

Thanks to everyone who participated. We had record sales for our troop and we hit our mark of an average of over $275 per scout who sold.
I will be placing our final popcorn orders for all wagon sales tonight.
Please make sure you have all of your orders entered in Trails End as wagon sales and NOT DELIVERED.

Patrol Box Work Days

Posted on Oct 13 2022 - 4:13pm

We have 11 new patrol boxes that are built and ready for finishing steps so they are ready to use by our growing troop. Since adding numbers to our troop, having a growing girls' troop, and wear and tear on our old boxes, this project has been greatly needed. We hope to have these new boxes ready to go for the November campout and they will serve our troops for years to come.

Please come an be a part of the work on Saturday, October 29  9:00 am - noon, and again on Saturday, November 5 9:00 am - noon. A great way to provide service to the troop!

The Pumpkins Are Coming Again on Sat, 10/15. And Donuts are Back!

Posted on Oct 12 2022 - 7:15pm

Sign up for a shift:

Arapaho UMC’s next load of pumpkins arrives on Sat, Oct 15th and the church need lots of help!

Troop 444 has been such a help with our patch in the last few years, and we are so grateful.

The unloading days are a great opportunity to:

  1. Show thanks for their hospitality to our Troops and provide much-needed helping hands (A Scout is helpful)
  2. Earn service hours towards Scout advancement

The Pumpkin Patch is a wonderful community experience, and proceeds are split between:

  • The farmers of the Navajo Nation in New Mexico (yes, even our pumpkin patch has a social justice cause)
  • Our Missions Fund supporting local and global ministries

The unloading process will be the same as last year which will increase safety for volunteers and guests:
